Everything from the barrel to the furniture to the ammunition and almost everything about the gun can be exchanged on the third party market.
We will cover many of the basics of the AR-15 rifle, starting with the different barrel options and going through the main parts of the AR-15. Then we'll move on to some of the most popular accessories. If you're looking for the best AR-15 upgrade, you're in the right place. I know I've said this before, but it bears repeating.
The list of improvements to an AR-15 can be very long, so we wanted to focus on things that affect ease of use, recoil, weight, length, and other important aspects of usability before we get into the really granular stuff.
This article is getting too long, so we won't cover weapon light options (although I tend to lean towards Streamlight) or night vision (I recommend looking at ATN). These may be important components, but they also have some conditions, so we chose to go through the most common ones.

We're also not going to get into accessories or the best AR-15 upgrades for an AR rifle in particular. We're not going to talk about different gun mechanics or anything like that. And we're not going to get so granular as to start talking about the development of your charging handle or bolt release. Those items can be updated, but they don't always start on the list.
We'll just stick to the "top" option for each product line, rather than list each one. I will go into detail about why I made the product I did, so, if you keep reading about these things you will have more information about what factors should be considered in each development.

Trigger Warning: Your Guide To Upgrading Your Ar 15 Trigger
When considering a barrel for replacement or new construction, you must weigh the pros and cons between a short barrel, a medium-length barrel, and a long barrel. The longer the barrel the better your accuracy and muzzle velocity, but the heavier and heavier the gun becomes.
With shorter barrels, it's much easier to find cases and store the AR-15 in small spaces like a car or truck. All other things being equal, an AR-15 equipped with a short barrel will also weigh less than one with a medium or long barrel. Anyone who tells you that length doesn't matter clearly hasn't tried barrels of different lengths.
Faxon is my personal choice because it takes the best of two different profile sizes: government and pencil. The government profile gives you strength and power, while the pencil barrel profile near the barrel gives you weight savings and smooth ride.
You don't need to get the Faxon as a medium length, but unless you have some reason to want a long or short barrel, I recommend it. Faxon makes good quality stainless steel barrels. A new barrel is one of the fastest ways to adjust the length of your AR-15, improve accuracy, and help recoil.

For the most part, it's a lot easier than thinking about upgrading a barrel or simply swapping one barrel for another. That's one of the great things about the AR-15 stage; changing something as important as a bucket is actually easy; it's almost as easy as swapping out simple accessories on another gun platform.
The instructions are easy to find online, and as long as you follow them closely, you won't have to worry too much about them and you'll be back shooting in no time. With some fire platforms, barrel replacement may not be possible, and if it is it may take an incredibly long time.
Superlative Arms comes in all standard sizes and is an affordable gas block. Having a low profile gas system is a great way to ensure that you can accommodate whatever optics you want to put in it. The gas tube and gas block get incredibly hot during firing, and Superlative Arms has made a solid gas system that can take a lot of heat, even when firing fast.
One of the main reasons why this is my pick for the best AR-15 upgrade is that you can adjust how much gas you release. This is great for making sure you only hold the recoil to the extent you need to check the action, and excess recoil can be reduced a bit by letting some gases escape.
Four Ar 15 Upgrades You Should Do Now
This is something that will be different for each gun, so you'll want to take your weapon out throughout the day and adjust things to fit your AR-15.
You'd be forgiven for thinking that there isn't much difference between the bolt carrier group options made and sold by different manufacturers, but there can be significant differences from one group of bolt carriers to another.
The bolt group is under a lot of pressure during a shoot, and it needs to perform well, reliably and predictably while under that pressure. The BCG includes a bolt carrier and bolt, but technically does not include a charging handle although you may have heard it referred to as a collection like a BCG.
Bravo Company also makes charging handles, so if that's an advantage you can hold the BCG and the charging handle at the same time. The BCM MPI is of good quality and will work reliably; Bravo's company pressure tests every bolt before shipping. It won't be the cheapest purchase you'll ever make, but I consider it 100% worth it.
The Top 5 Ar 15 Upgrades To Enhance Accuracy And Performance
This BCG won't work on every single model you can mount your AR-15 in, but it will work on most of them, and it will work on many more if you swap out the bolt and keep the carrier. If you are doing a standard .223/5.56 build, this BCG will work great. You can get BCG for a lot less money if you want, but this is my best choice available.
At the risk of being too "out there", I go with the Franklin Armory BFSIII AR-C1 double trigger.
This is one of those upgrades where it's really hard to say "the best" instead of "my personal favorite". Compared to many other boot options, BFSIII is quite expensive. If all you need is one basic stage with a clean break, this can be had for about 1/5 the price of the BFSIII.
