Cz P10c Safety - For years, companies have worked to challenge Glock's position in the market, fueled enormously by the success of the sweet Glock 19. The CZ P-10 C is the first to make such a direct challenge; Go as far as "fits most Glock 19 holsters." In some ways, CZ has produced what some might call a more attractive G19, but is it all about looks?

CZ is a company known for making high quality pistols for defense and competition. I'm sure I wasn't the only one who was a little surprised when they announced this stylistic and functional departure from almost everything they've ever done. From the looks of it, it would appear to be a worthy challenger to the Glock Model 19, but the proof is in the shooting. I recently got to spend some quality time shooting the P-10 C and here are my first impressions.

The P-10 C is a direct challenge to the Glock 19. Like the G19, the P-10 C is a large, striker-fired compact pistol made for every day carry and duty.

The new CZ pistol may be considered for several reasons. Chief among them is if you want a good value on a quality pistol that requires little or no modification. You might also consider the P-10 C if trigger action quality is your main concern. You might also consider it if you like the features of a Glock 19, but prefer a better grip contour and a more attractive design.

Now, because CZ intentionally created the P-10 C as a direct competitor to the Glock 19, I will make some direct comparisons along those lines in this review. These comparisons can't help but be colored by the fact that I shoot 40k to 45k rounds through a Glock 19 every year. One could say I am used to that platform. Let's see if this P-10 C is a

The first thing I noticed when bringing the CZ P-10 C to the target is that the grip angle, although similar to the G19, is slightly less acute. This means that if you are used to shooting a bell pistol, you will have to bring the front sight of the P-10 C up a bit when you lean towards the target. Since very few pistols have a grip angle similar to a bell, this is to be expected. However, the grip angle of the P-10 C is not as vertical as most SIG or 1911 pistols.

Once I got the hang of the right grip angle for squeezing out, I found the P-10 C easy to shoot accurately. The 3-dot sights are easy to pick up and the round goes where it's supposed to. Part of this easy accuracy surely comes from the much celebrated trigger on this pistol.

Short reset for a gun fired by an attacker. It breaks at about 4.5 pounds. The trigger is better than anything you're likely to create in a bell with polished and/or aftermarket components. Running a friend's model at the practice range, I found that bill drills and other rapid shooting came easily with the P-10 C. CZ deserves credit for that trigger.

I find that I like how a strong magazine will sit in the pistol with an open slide locked sending the slide home. Apparently, this is a deliberate feature of the fight. Good on them. This is something that is possible with some Glocks, but it is not repeatable.

The one negative thing I notice right away is that the P-10 C seems to have a little stronger recoil than I find on a Glock 19. It's not overwhelming, but it's noticeable. I chalk this one up to the fact that 1) the grip is slightly narrower than on a G19, so the recoil is directed to a smaller area, and 2) the bore axis, although low, is slightly higher on the P-10C .Furthermore, since the CZ has no frame flare in the area one would rest your thumb on to help reduce muzzle flip, the tool will remove it or reduce it to control it.

The P-10 C has a much more plush hand fit than the G19. The grip contours are a bit spartan compared to other CZs, but still quite nice. I almost got the impression that I was

The other noticeable grip aspect of the P-10 C is the fact that the rear undercut of the trigger guard is comfortable and helps facilitate a slightly superior grip. This is a feature failure on the Glock 19, which has a very uncomfortable configuration in this location (and must be adjusted after purchase!). My average sized hands have a good reach to the trigger and I found the grip size to be just right with the small backstrap

As I mentioned before, I found it a little less controllable than a Glock 19, due to a slightly more pronounced recoil impulse and inability to rest the thumb of my support hand on the forward frame. Textured CZ has rough placement on the frame, but it's flat pancake and offers a little purchase for control. But the difference in control is small, and it is not a compelling issue.

Although the P-10 C is about half an inch taller than the Glock 19, it has the same capacity of 15 + 1. That's not terrible, but one would hope it would mean one or two more rounds. A little disappointed.

The frame of the P-10 C is made of fiber reinforced polymer and it sports an aggressive texture that seems to be even more pronounced than that of a Gen 4 Glock. Some of the people I've talked to who bought the new CZ say they sanded the texture a bit. I can't imagine why someone would do that, because the texture isn't gross enough to be called "grippy." It's a good texture, but I'd prefer it to be sharper. I still say this frame needs stippling.

The glow-in-the-dark 3-dot sights are made of aluminum. It's not optimal, but it sure beats plastic sights. I expect someone would be serious about replacing irons, perhaps with tritium dots.

As reported elsewhere, the release to the magazine (available on both sides!) is quite harsh and requires strong, immediate pressure to release. The control is a bit small and I'm not a fan. I prefer the butterfly control found on the Glock 19. I am told that the release will loosen over time and I have no reason to doubt that claim.

The frame and slide are attractively contoured, but free of unnecessary frills. I applaud CZ's choice to make the pistol fully ambidextrous rather than side-swappable. The barrel is quite strong, especially the barrel lug. Not sure why they feel this is necessary, but I think it's a nice feature.

The P-10 C is an accurate, simple, attractive, comfortable pistol with a great trigger. The grip contour is much more comfortable than the G19 contour and the sights are metal rather than plastic. Getting all this for about $100 less than you'd pay for a Glock 19 makes this pistol hard to ignore.

Cz P10c Review

The P-10 C is slightly larger and heavier than a Glock 19 and new magazines are more expensive than the Glock. Although it fits in some G19 holsters, it will not fit in Incog's G-Code holsters (which are by far the best holsters for concealed carry). The magazine release control is a bit fiddly and small. Felt recoil is slightly greater with the P-10 C than with a Glock 19 and the frame is not conducive to physical muzzle flip control.

The P-10 C fits like a glove and I see nothing wrong with the ergonomics of its design (short of a forward thumb rest).

There is very little wrong with the shootability of this pistol. I give it 4 stars instead of 5 as a comparison to the Glock 19, which I find quite flawless in its shootability.

I think the CZ P-10 C is somewhat close to the definition of good value. Yes, there are some minor flaws, but for the price it is unlikely to find anything close to this quality and features.

While I reserve judgment on its reliability and longevity, the CZ P-10 C is simply a higher value than the G19...out of the box. There are details about everyday wear that keep me from wanting to replace my Glock 19 with a P-10 C, but it's hard to find anything really wrong with CZ's new pistol. The newcomer could not be compared to Glock's long and storied history of excellence and reliability, but time will tell.

I will be interested to see how the market for components and holsters reacts to the arrival of this pistol. If this is the killer bell it was made out to be, the answer is going to have to be pretty tough. Meanwhile, the CZ P-10 C is an excellent effort and worth considering.
