Chief Pinning Ceremony Attire - Since we've talked about the Launch Party here, and the reception here, let's talk about the clothes. Members of the non-promotional services and civil servants who come as visitors usually wear "day dress". Service members participating in an event often, though not always, tend to identify with the leader. Tyler chose to wear his service uniform, as did the Commanding Officer (Chief), MC and POC. My rule of thumb for dressing up for a military event is to first consider what your service member is wearing. If he's wearing an ABU or flight suit, it's usually normal. Dress is service dress (what you would wear to church) and Mess Dress (Air Force dress) can be casual (dress) but is usually casual. I will have more details on what to wear for various military roles in a future post.

After finding out what is on my service member, I think about the incident. We were celebrating success. For me, clothing is another way of showing that I am proud of him and that his success was important to me. It's like going to a wedding. Those closest to the couple are usually the best dressed. Think close family, wedding party, etc. (although I know from personal experience that's not always the case... yikes!). That being said, just being there is the most important thing. Clothes are just clothes, and if your presence means you can't go home to change, well, who cares! They will only be happy when you are there!

When choosing what to wear I always try to think of comfort first. Can I walk on it? More importantly, can I stay? No one wants to be blindsided. How do I feel? If I feel good about something, I feel more confident. And friends, confidence is a good thing! Now about my outfit! I wanted to do something a little different from the norm, which would usually be a dress. I LOVE dresses. I usually find any reason to wear them. But, I saw and fell in love with this nude color midi dress and I knew it would be perfect for a daytime event..., and I really wanted to. ?

My Dress. Don't forget the sweet grass in the background. Post-mowing isn't a good fertilizer, right?

Now for the details. My shirt is from Target and can be found here originally. Unfortunately, it is no longer available, but you can find a similar one here. It looks very beautiful too. My necklace is a SUGARFIX by Baublebar, also from Target, and a similar one can be found here. I've seen the exact same one on clearance at several stores. My loss is your gain! The shirt is from ASOS and can be found here originally, but I love the buttons in a very similar nude color, available here. Finally, the shoes. These Sam Edelman beauties are from Nordstrom and can be found here. I got them in Nude Linen Patent Leather and went up half a size. The toes can be killer, but going up half a size solved that problem (at least for me).

My second prom dress pattern comes courtesy of my good friend, Amanda. Below is the outfit she wore to her husband's recent promotion.

Beautiful, isn't it?! I LOVE that flared "midi" skirt! Luckily for us, he was kind enough to share the details. Her shirt is from Express and can be found here. Her necklace is from Baublebar and can be found here. I love Baublebar! Lots of chic pieces and they usually sell some sort of merchandise. The beautiful set is from Morning Lavender and can be found here. Have you ever heard of Morning Lavender? This is a small shop that sells the best clothes, for women. If you sign up for their emails, you get 10% off your first purchase! Last, but not least, shoes. I am MP. in patent black from Nordstrom and can be found here. Thanks for sharing Amanda, and thank you!

Both of these examples happen to be dresses with skirts, but pants worn with a nice top are perfectly fine. For my male readers, you can't go wrong with slacks and a collared shirt or even a sport coat or suit (my dad wore a suit). I hope these examples are helpful for those who are unsure, or don't know what to wear to Graduation Ceremony. At the end of the day, whatever you choose, just remember why you're there...to celebrate and share your hero's success! As always, thanks for reading!!! ? ~Lisa
